A few weeks ago I took part in an event held as part of the Creative Tourist Manchester Weekender.
At work in the northern quarter |
"All in a flash" was held at the Manchester Digital Laboratory (MaDLab). Len Grant, a documentary photographer, spoke about his work and challenged us to go out into Manchester's Northern Quarter and take photographs of people that illustrated what this part of the city was all about.
However these photographs weren't going to be taken at a distance using a long lens. Instead we were going to ask strangers to pose for our pictures.
We then had to choose one of our images which was sent for printing on A3 card, before we embarked on the 2nd part of the challenge. A flashmob human gallery! We would walk around the city, and when a whistle was blown we would display our images to a bemused public. A minute or two latter the whistle would blow again, the images hidden and everyone dispersed back into the crowd. After walking a short distance the process was to be repeated.
